Cadence and IMEC are offering a Ph. D. student project in the scope of their Joint Development Program on advanced microelectronic processes (5nm and below) to create a 3D-flow enablement.

Job purpose

Cadence and IMEC are offering a Ph. D. student project in the scope of their Joint Development Program on advanced microelectronic processes (5nm and below) to create a 3D-flow enablement.

The project includes specification, implementation and validation of automated digital IC design flow, encompassing tools, libraries, rules and process for achieving the best PPA (Performance, Area, Power).

The project will focus on physical design aspects (eg place & route) and electrical aspects (eg timing, power, optimization). The student will be supervised by specialists at both Cadence and IMEC.

The student will be hired as a temporary employee for Cadence Design Systems and will get an office as “Cadence resident” at IMEC’s headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. Working on this project with Cadence and IMEC implies working in a stimulating, multi-disciplinary environment at the forefront of technology, with knowledgeable colleagues, and an excellent computer infrastructure.

The planned project runs for 3 years starting August 2021 in Leuven, Belgium.

It is expected that, depending on the results of the project, multiple joint scientific publications will evolve from this project.

The candidate will represent Cadence at IMEC, we expect proactive communication with IMEC personnel and establishing contacts within the team.

Oral and written presentations on the work performed are of course part of the project.

Person specification, Experience

passionate about new IC technologies and challenging R&D projects
deep knowledge in microelectronics technology and processes for leading edge nodes - 28nm and below
good understanding of the general digital IC design framework: technology, libraries and flow (RTL2GDS)
basic CAD tools knowledge would be a definite plus synthesis, P&R, timing signoff, Spice)
knowledge in HDL language (Verilog, VHDL) and/or Low power IC design would be a definite plus
very good skills in programming eg tcl/TK, Pearl…
very good communication skills in English, able to work remote at customer premises
quick learner and proactive attitude
with authorization to work in Europe
