Team/division description
The Vehicle Performance Engineering division (VPE) is part of the R&D group at Toyota Motor Europe Technical Center in Zaventem, Belgium. Our division is in charge of:
• Identifying market requirements and trends, and turning them into development targets for vehicles, their subsystems, and down to components
• Performance development of passenger vehicles for the European market

The Reliability & Strength team is responsible for the structural durability and strength of the body-in-white and chassis.

The Reliability & Strength team is looking for a motivated Engineering Intern with strong interest in data science applied to mechanical engineering.

Your project
Your objectives will be to finalise a prediction method and to develop a detection one for dents on the body outer panels (doors, roof, hoods). These methods would be mostly based on machine learning and aim at streamlining our development process and efficiency.

The project will contain 2 main parts:
1. Expand and finalise an existing prediction model using machine learning algorythm for dent load based on CAD data. To do so, you will have to train a model based features you will have primarly extracted from CAD and FEM.
2. Develop a detection method for dents on the body outer panels (doors, roof, hoods) based on image recognition by machine learning. To do so, you will have to take images and measurements of panel dented and analyse them to build a detection model.
