Legal Financial Markets provides tailored and sustainable legal solutions by being a partner in business while mitigating potential legal and reputational risks for ING.
Legal Financial Markets Brussels consists of around 4 Lawyers providing legal support principally to the Financial Markets (“FM”), Debt Capital Markets (“DCM”) and Equity Capital Markets (“ECM”) businesses of ING in Europe.
Your key responsibilities

Capital Markets
- for DCM in several jurisdictions (a.o. Belgium, France and Luxembourg) for both third party (corporates, financial institutions and sovereigns) and ING issuances, including commercial paper, medium term notes, covered bonds and retail bonds;
- ECM transactions in Belgium (IPO, SPO, OPA, …);
- Assist DCM/ECM business in their pitches and provide them with ad-hoc legal advice:

Derivatives
- Maintain a comprehensive and current knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory issues, including ISDA and other market standard documentation, as well as EMIR and Dodd Frank;
- Provide legal advice in connection with a broad range of products linked to a diverse trading strategy, such as event driven trades, margin financing, relative value transactions and arbitrage opportunities.
- Review, draft and negotiate legal documentation required for the derivatives activity of ING globally, including master agreements, collateral arrangements, deal confirmations, margin documentation.

General Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide general legal and associated advice and support to the Financial Markets, DCM and ECM businesses of ING in Europe and globally;

Provide legal support to other business and support areas, such as Credit Risk, Compliance, Front Office and keep internal clients advised of relevant legal developments;Liaise with lawyers from the FM Legal team globally to ensure seamless provision of advice across boundaries and time zones; and liaise as necessary with external counsel and communicate that advice to the ING management.

As a Legal Financial Markets Lawyer you will also need:
- Master’s degree in Law
- Previous experience in advising in most of the areas referred to in the Job Specification
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and French and/or Dutch
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working at a law firm or in-house at a leading international wholesale bank active in the areas described in the Job Description
- A confident, articulate personality, good at building client relationships, and able to take responsibility for, and prioritise, their workload without extensive supervision
