Euronav is the largest publicly listed crude carrier in the world. We have more than 70 vessels and 3,000 people at sea and on shore working 24/7 every day of the year to transport crude oil across the globe. As a market leader, we see it as our role to be pioneers in the maritime industry, being innovative in every facet of our business. One of our underlying drivers is to become a frontrunner in leveraging digitalization.

Our FAST initiative, short for “Fleet Automatic Statistics & Tracking” is part of this mission. Through this digital platform, we’ll use sensor data from our vessels to improve efficiency, enable more collaboration between vessel and shore, reduce operational costs, and increase energy savings to design a path to Zero Emission targets by 2050.
FAST is a centralized, cloud-based platform integrated across our vessels and shore offices, receiving sensor data on board and instantly showing the condition and performance of vessels to teams at sea and on shore.
From there, our teams can validate the data where needed, access raw data for deeper analysis, and combine with events and additional information for a further enriched view. This will help us improve overall fleet performance by developing and sharing advanced insights and move our business – and entire industry - forward into more data-driven decision making.
The project involves an increasing amount of onboard systems and growing data volumes and storage needs, so to ensure scalability and optimize security, we’re leveraging Microsoft Azure cloud services. We selected the company Codit to develop the IoT backend because of the team’s proven expertise in these technologies with experience developing similar platforms, and the company’s reputation for quality and collaboration.
Rombit was selected to develop the front-end solution that will provide rich functionality with a goal to reduce the overall operational costs through reduced fuel oil consumption and cost-effective predictive maintenance of our on-board machinery. We expect to see improved efficiency and improved collaboration and communication between vessel and shore, using this platform, thanks to the visualization of real time sensor data and data analytics. This means less time and effort spent on daily administrative tasks.
We have arrived at a stage where a first drafted “FAST User Guide” will be developed (in English), describing all FAST functionalities in detail and including the user workflows and screenshots of the new FAST platform. This FAST User Guide needs to be a high quality document, complete and very user friendly in order to support new trained users in the usage of the solution.
