The energy revolution goes hand in hand with the advent of new technologies, decentralised generation and the emergence of many new small players. This development is described internationally in European climate goals, but for Elia it is important to have good local information, even when these small players are not directly connected to the Elia grid. This local information is crucial, for example, for making short-term forecasts of generation from renewable sources, calculating total energy consumption, determining the need for local flexibility, etc. Accordingly, over the last few years, Elia has been establishing a database comprising information from our customers and the various Belgian distribution system operators.
